The Birds

we stare at the sky with amazement, relief, and a sense of successful execution...

trying to make sure all cages are opened and all pigeons are gone...

as the pigeons frantically flap their way in to a 'kit' or 'loft' flying towards the sun...

in a huge cloud of dust...

by Chris and Mike who run around the truck...

each row of cages are opened...

as quickly as possible...

one by one...

after a few delays because of the lack of sun, the "go" signal is given and we decide on positions for photographing the release

we watch as Chris and Mike unload, feed and prepare the pigeon cages before the release...

on assignment

The call came in the day before, as it usually does, with the request to cover this quick assignment. It was really early on a Sunday morning in late October that we met 2 truck drivers, brothers Chris and Mike, at the Somerset exit and photographed a pigeon release. So, warmly dressed with coffee in hand, we sit patiently and wait for the sun to rise...
